Winter Grant

Winter can be especially challenging for our community. With rising living costs, cancelled work, unexpected expenses and seasonal closures, many in our community face hardship at this time of year.

That’s why we’re introducing our ‘Winter Grant’ programme. This programme is here to provide quick, one-time financial support to help actors and stage managers struggling with unexpected costs or bills, preventing them from becoming overwhelming.

How we can help

Our Winter Grant will provide small grants, typically up to £350, to help mitigate the burden of unforeseen financial challenges. These may include urgent travel requirements, increases in essential household bills, or other unexpected expenses. While the programme cannot support individuals experiencing financial hardship solely due to a lack of work, it is intended to offer timely and practical assistance to those whose circumstances have changed abruptly.

We understand that everybody’s financial situation is different, and our team will also provide support to access specialist advice relevant to each applicant’s situation.

Who Can Apply

Actors and people in stage management with at least two professional credits in the past two years, an average of one professional credit per year since the start of their career, or ten professional credits or more over their career.

You do not have to be experiencing a health issue or unexpected life event to apply for our Winter Grant. If your health or an unexpected life event is affecting your ability to work, please apply to our main grant programme here.

We will prioritise applicants who have not received a cost-of-living or winter grant from the charity in the past, and those in the greatest financial need.

What do we mean by ‘Professional Credits’?

For actors: Professional credits refer to paid acting roles, for instance in theatre, TV, film and voiceover work (e.g. radio and video games). We can also consider lead roles in commercials.  We do not consider extra, walk-on, or background work as professional credits. Where an actor plays one role over a period of more than one year, we will consider this as one credit per year. For instance, if you held the same role in a production for two years, this would count as two credits.

For stage management: Each production you’ve worked on in a paid capacity counts as one credit. Where someone in stage management works in one production over a period of more than one year, we will consider this as one credit per year. For instance, if you held the same position in a production for two years, this would count as two credits.
