Application Guide

If you want to find out about how our application process works you have come to the right place!

On this page, we outline all the steps involved.

But please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any more questions.

We are here to help and make this as easy as possible for you.

Step 1 – Reviewing information

Please review the information about support we can provide, and FAQs on our website:

Step 2 – Make an enquiry

Complete our grant enquiry form. The form will ask for a bit of information about you, your career and your current circumstances. You can also contact us to make an enquiry by phone or via post if you wish. We will respond to enquiries as quickly as we can, and within 5 working days. It may take slightly longer at busy periods – please keep an eye on our website and social media for any updates.

TIP – Please share as much information as you are comfortable doing, this will help us to provide you with an update as quickly as possible.

Step 3 – Enquiry reviewed

We will review your enquiry and may ask for some further information. We will make an initial check of your likely eligibility and share an application form with you if it seems that you meet our criteria for support. Please note that being sent an application form does not guarantee that we will be able to assist.

Step 4 – Completing the application form

Please complete all sections of the application form that apply to you. You can complete the application form via an online link. If you require assistance completing the form please contact us on 020 7836 6378 and we will be happy to help. We can support you over the phone, and/or share a paper copy via post.

TIP– Gather information such as recent bank statements, medical information and benefits statements before starting the form.

Your Household

We ask about the makeup of your household since this helps us to consider the level of grant we may be able to provide.

Your Application

Any additional information, or changes to your circumstances since you made your enquiry help us to understand your situation as best we can and look at doing all we can to support you. Please include some information here, since otherwise we will contact you to ask for more details.

Income from Employment and Benefits

Please tell us about any income you have (except for income from benefits) in the first three boxes of ‘income from employment’. If you are living with a partner please share their total monthly income in the final box.

If you are receiving benefits, please enter them in the matching box in the ‘income from benefits’ section. For instance, if you are receiving Universal Credit, use the first box (including if you have a joint claim with your partner). If your partner receives any benefits which are not part of a joint claim, please enter the amount and which benefits they receive in the final two boxes.

Your Outgoings

This section helps us to get a picture of your household outgoings. Please use the boxes to tell us about any rent/mortgage, council tax, gas, electricity, and water bills that you have. You can use the final free text box to tell us about any other costs, if you wish.

Household Savings

This box should contain the total of your household savings. This includes both current and savings account balances, ISAs and stocks/shares. If you live with a partner, please provide a figure for your combined savings. If you or your partner own a home which you do not live in, please include the value of that property here.

Your bank information

If your application is accepted, we will make any grant payments to these bank details.

TIP – Please ensure you include a statement from the same account in Section 6, ‘Supporting Documents’.

Support from other charities

We often work with other charities to ensure we do all we can to assist applicants between us. We will never contact another charity, or discuss your application with anybody else, without your consent.

Supporting Documents

Please upload your supporting documents including any medical letters, fit note(s), your most recent monthly bank statements, and a CV if you do not have Spotlight.

If you would like to send supporting information by post, please select ‘yes’ in response to that question. We will contact you once we receive that information.

TIP – if you are unsure whether you need to attach a document or piece of information, give us a quick call on 020 7836 6378 and we will be pleased to advise.

Declaration

Please read this statement carefully, and ensure you understand it. If you have any questions please contact us.

Evaluation Information

We ask this question since we may contact you once your support comes to an end to ask for feedback on our services. By asking this question as part of the application form, we can measure the impact of our work. This helps us to improve our support and services for future applicants. As with the rest of the application, your response is confidential.

Step 5 – Submit your application

We will review your application, and may request further information or supporting documentation, but only if we need to in order to look at how we can support. Once we have a completed application and all the information we require, we will respond to enquiries as quickly as we can, and within 10 working days. As with enquiries it may take slightly longer at busy periods – so please keep an eye on our website and social media for any updates.

Step 6 – Update

A member of the team will contact you as soon as possible with an update on your application, let you know if we are able to provide support, and if so what support we can offer.

If we’re unable to help, we’ll do all that we can to connect you with other sources of support and advice relevant to your situation.
